Cookie Policy
Notice on the use of cookies and similar technologies
Pursuant to Art. 122 of D.Lgs. 196/2003 and Garante Privacy Decision no. 231/2021
Last updated: 23 June 2026
1. What are cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in the user's browser during a visit. They are read back by the website on each subsequent visit and allow information to be maintained between requests — for example, login status or language preferences.
Technologies similar to cookies — such as the browser's localStorage — can store information directly on the user's device without exchanging it with the server on every request. Under EDPB Guidelines 2/2023, such technologies fall within the scope of Art. 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive and are subject to the same rules as cookies.
2. Cookies used by this platform
The Wellbeing Insights platform uses exclusively first-party cookies (set directly by this website) for technical and functional purposes. No third-party cookies, advertising profiling cookies or web analytics tools are used.
| Name | Category | Duration | Purpose | Origin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
md_wbpl1_sessid |
Technical / navigation | Session (expires when browser is closed) |
Maintains the authenticated user session. Without this cookie it is not possible to navigate between survey pages while remaining logged in. | First party |
_csrfmd_wbpl1 |
Technical / security | Session | Protects forms and POST requests against Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) attacks. Strictly necessary for application security. | First party |
app_language |
Functional / preference | 30 days | Stores the language selected by the user (Italian or English) so that the preference is remembered on subsequent visits. | First party |
md_wbpl1_comp |
Functional | 180 days | Stores the unique completion code for the current survey session, allowing the user to resume the questionnaire from where they left off without losing previously provided answers. | First party |
3. Similar technologies: localStorage
In addition to cookies, the platform uses the browser's localStorage to store some technical information locally that is necessary for the service to function correctly. This data remains exclusively on the user's device and is not transmitted to third-party servers.
| localStorage key | Purpose | Nature |
|---|---|---|
participantUUID |
Technical identifier consisting of a sequence of hexadecimal-based digits, randomly generated in the browser upon first access. Allows the platform to associate responses with the same completion session without collecting identifying data. | Technical — does not allow identification of any individual |
compMap |
JSON map that associates the wave identifier with the stored completion code. Enables automatic restoration of an in-progress survey when the user returns to the platform. | Technical / functional |
Data in localStorage is automatically deleted when the user clears the browser cache or browsing data. There is no automatic browser-side expiry.
4. Consent: why it is not required
Under Art. 122(1) of D.Lgs. 196/2003 and Garante Privacy Decision no. 231 of 10 June 2021 («Guidelines on cookies and other tracking tools»), user consent is not required for cookies and technologies falling within the following categories:
- Technical navigation cookies: strictly necessary for the use of the service (§ 3.1 of the Guidelines);
- Security cookies: necessary to ensure the integrity and security of the site;
- Functional cookies: necessary to provide a service explicitly requested by the user (in this case, completing the questionnaire and language preference).
All cookies and technologies listed in the previous sections fall within these categories. For this reason the platform does not display a cookie consent banner.
5. How to manage cookies
You can view, restrict or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Please note that disabling technical cookies may impair the functioning of the platform or make completion of the questionnaire impossible.
Instructions for the main browsers:
- Google Chrome: Menu → Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Mozilla Firefox: Menu → Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Apple Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Microsoft Edge: Menu → Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
To delete data stored in localStorage, use your browser's «Clear browsing data» function (selecting the «Cached images and files» or «Site data» option, depending on the browser), or use the developer tools (F12 → Application → Local Storage).
